Patrick Loi

MANAGING PRINCIPAL

Patrick is a Registered Liquidator and Founding Principal of Greengate Advisory Chartered Accountants with over 18 years of commercial, business restructuring and insolvency experience.

Patrick works closely with companies and their trusted advisers in the middle market sector who are experiencing financial challenges and utilises his practical and commercial experience to deliver commercial outcomes for all stakeholders. Prior to founding Greengate Advisory, Patrick worked with industry leaders in mid-tier accounting firm, BDO Australia and United Kingdom, and national restructuring firm, BRI Ferrier.

 

Significant Professional Experience

Patrick has taken a senior role on a variety of insolvency appointments including:

  • Ryde Bowling Club Co-Op Limited (over 100 years old local club)
    Managed the voluntary administration and the successful restructured the club through an amalgamation with another Registered Club. There were approximately 300 to 400 members after amalgamation.
  • Administrator of SES Fashion
    A clothing retailer with that had over 20 outlets throughout Australia. We are managing over 50 employees and attempting to restructure the business to preserve its enterprise value.
  • Liquidator of Fortune Constructions & Design Pty Ltd
    Successfully worked with the receivers to sell land of $5.5m and obtained surplus funds of $1m for unsecured creditors.
  • Voluntary Administrator and Liquidator of Gondon Group of Companies
    that developed over 150 apartments in North Ryde, 60 townhouses in Kellyville. Managed the realization of the residual property stock.
  • Voluntary Administrator of Australian Shopping Network Pty Ltd T/A Open Shop.
    Australia’s second largest home shopping network broadcast through Channel 75 nationally. Orderly wind-down of the company’s operation and working with key stakeholders to find an interest party to restructure the business at the same time.

John is a Registered Liquidator and a director of Greengate Advisory Chartered Accountants with over 12 years of insolvency experience.

John has significant experience across all facets of insolvency, which he uses to help businesses and individuals in financial distress. John is also a strong believer in helping small businesses overcome the constraints and costs of traditional insolvency solutions and is able to help eligible small businesses restructure under the small business restructuring regime or access the simplified liquidation process.

John has taken a senior role on a variety of insolvency appointments including:

  • Voluntary Administrator of Darling Harbour Pty Ltd, St Wells Pty Ltd and Surfers Paradise Pty Ltd
    Subsidiaries of an ASX listed company that operated retail outlets for Chinese tourists. The core business was adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, and border closures.
  • Voluntary Administrator of SES Fashion
    A clothing retailer with that had over 20 outlets throughout Australia. Managing over 50 employees and attempting to restructure the business to preserve its enterprise value.
  • Simplified Liquidation Process.
    Helped the director understand her options and utilise the simplified liquidation process to provide a fast and cost effective means to wind up the company’s affairs.
  • Workaholics Services Pty Ltd.
    Managed investigations funded through ASIC Assetless Administration Fund to conducted public examinations of the director and associated parties for potential breaches of directors duties, and phoenix activities.

Andrew Jo

PRINCIPAL

Andrew is a Principal of Greengate Avisory with over 15 years of commercial, business restructuring and insolvency experience.

Andrew has spent the majority of his career working with many of Australia’s most experienced and widely regarded insolvency practitioners (including Ian Ferrier, Brian Siliva, etc,). His range of experience includes voluntary administrations, liquidations, receiverships, deeds of company arrangement, and creditors’ trusts across a variety of industries predominantly in the small and medium-sized industry market.

 

Significant Professional Experience

Andrew has been involved in a wide range and size of corporate appointments, including voluntary and court-appointed liquidations/administrations in industries such as retail and hospitality, transportation and logistics, building and construction, etc.

Voluntary administration of SES Fashion, a clothing retailer specialising in womens fashion. The Company had approximately 8 stores and employed 50 employees as at the date of appointment. Conducted various sales campaigns to try and sell the remaining stock so as to maximise the returns from the Company’s assets.

Voluntary administration of Passiontree Velvet – A chain of cafes with stores located in QLD and NSW. Continued to trade the business with a view to restructure the business through a Deed of Company Arrangement.

Samuel Lam

SENIOR MANAGER

Samuel is a Senior Manager at Greengate Advisory Chartered Accountants with over 12 years of insolvency experience, specialising in corporate and personal insolvency appointments across Queensland. Samuel has deep expertise in dealing with bankruptcies, liquidations, and complex legal matters, with a focus on achieving optimal outcomes for all stakeholders.

He works closely with businesses, individuals, and advisers in times of financial distress, combining technical knowledge with practical solutions to deliver commercial and fair results. Samuel is also known for his strong ability to communicate insolvency concepts to culturally diverse stakeholders in a clear and respectful way.

    Successfully recovered property transferred by bankrupts to related parties to defeat creditor claims. This asset recovery significantly improved creditor returns.
  • Voluntary Administration of a Cotton Farm Exporting to China
    Involved in the voluntary administration of a large agribusiness impacted by Covid-19. Implemented a successful DOCA protecting a $10 million bank security while preserving business continuity.
  • Fraud Detection and Reporting to the ATO
    Played a lead role in identifying fraudulent conduct involving fake invoices and fabricated financial records. Provided detailed findings that led to the director’s prosecution.
  • Support to ASIC Prosecution

Paul is a manager of Greengate Advisory with over 16 years of experience in the Corporate and Personal Insolvency space.

His background includes roles at ASIC, a prominent chartered accounting firm, as well as working for the largest personal insolvency practitioners in Australia. His diverse range of experience includes undertaking enforcement and compliance duties at ASIC, Voluntary Administrations, Deed of Company Arrangements, Liquidations, Bankruptcy, Part X and Personal Insolvency Agreements.

At Greengate Advisory, Paul focuses on collaboration with stakeholders to achieve the most favourable outcomes in insolvency administrations. His in-depth knowledge of insolvency law allows him to navigate intricate cases with confidence.

Significant Professional Experience

Paul has taken a senior role on a variety of regulatory matters and insolvency appointments which include:

  • ASIC case manager in which he was responsible for monitoring and ensuring companies and directors compliance with the Corporations Act and other relevant legislation, undertaking enforcement actions and investigating reports of misconduct. Paul’s work resulted in the successful banning of individuals from being a company director due to their breaches of the law.
  • Managed the day-to-day administration of a Part X/Personal Insolvency Agreement for a director who operated a complex group of property development companies in which he had a significant personal liability. The Director was subsequently able build a highly successful business following the administration.
  • Administered multiple bankruptcy matters in which asset transfers were identified that were voidable under Sections 120 and 121 of the Bankruptcy Act 1966. Legal proceedings undertaken resulted in successful outcomes which ultimately benefited creditors of the bankrupt estates.
